Dash-9 Losing Link

Postby Tim Barta » Sat Jul 08, 2017 1:37 pm

Greetings all,

Have a Dash-9 that has started losing it's link when the speed step reaches 10-11. Run 18.5V battery power with Revo Receiver, the locomotive worked fine for years but all of a sudden it started losing it's link. Batteries in the controller and locomotive are fully charged, and I have even switched receivers to eliminate the possibility of it being a bad board but the new receiver has the same result. Has anyone else encountered this, any ideas on how to troubleshoot?

Just for the process of elimination, have you tried plugging the battery into the cable at the other end of the loco to rule out a fuse issue? Can you try a different battery or track power to rule out a bad cell in the battery?

For info, the lost link was the result of a faulty motor block. Switched blocks with another Dash-9 and the unit in question ran just fine. I installed the faulty blocks in the peer locomotive and the link was lost. Well that looks like the easy part, now the fun begins on how to obtain new motor blocks! Several calls have been made to dealers, but as expected they're all gone. Any leads on where to find new motor blocks?
