2 gen Mike

Post by R.J DeBerg » Thu Jan 19, 2017 8:31 pm

Well I've had it for about 5 years now and finally got it running smooth. It always was very jerky when running and thought it was out of time or needed break in time. Well I did run but not as much as I would have liked so never got around to finding the issue. Well went to DH last week and took with me. One of the guys I hang around with said he take a look at it. Well yep found it was out of time. So h fooled with it and now it runs just as good as my first gen Mike. We put it on the track there where a bunch of cars on the track more than I thought the mike would pull. Buddy said hook on and will set some out when we get to the other side. Gave the loco a little nudge and it started moving 31 cars. Most I've ever pulled and made it to the switch to set some out. Ended up pulling 15 really good. I'm happy camper now. Just think if AC was still in business what other LS locos we might have gotten. Later RJD

That is good news RJ. It is very pleasing to get something - whatever it is - is the correct manner after a disappointing beginning. That was a prety heavy load to pull so your friend certainly has put that loco back onto your roster. :)

RJ Good to hear of your progress. I haven't been steamin the last few months as in our "cold" weather..50 deg. I just don't get good run times as no warm water baths.

When it gets to the 70's I'll be out there with both the 0-4-4 and my Mike. Can't wait... But hangin in there...

Sorry folks that's my 0-4-0 not 0-4-4. Typo... That would be a trick...

You can get good run times once you are fired up and change the hot water bath a couple of times. Should run good. I added a way to heat my hot water bath from steam from my engine. Works good. Did both my Mikes that way. Had the Mike out last week to run on My RR and did really well. Now that I got both running good may try to double head. :) Later RJD

Hi RJ, I wonder if anyone has ever tried to use one of those 9 volt sock warmer units to warm the water bath? I would imagine you could sort of wrap it around the bath tank...Would be interesting...
