Hello Wayne, thank you very much for your wishes. Nobody noticed the last two years so it was pleasing to see someone spotted this years - a milestone year I guess.
I was not able to run any trains as a big section of track - around twenty feet - consisting of main, loop and siding has been lifted. I am in the midst of relaying the pavers which are the base for this section. I use pavers here as it is the way station and diner area with the elevator on the siding.
I have eventually persuaded my wife to dig up some ferns and tall spear like leafed plants with orange (we also had red version but that is nowhere near the RR). I don't know the horticultural name of the flower but I just know it as a PITA as it droops over the tracks!
The new area has allowed me to move the siding to the other side of the main and to re-locate the goods depot adjacent to the flag stop station. Beforehand it was the other side of a lilac tree. I now have to repaint the structures - they stay outside all year. That will happen tomorrow, it going to rain apparently. I am sure it will look a lot better when all finished, but heavens above it has been hard work - ye gods, don't my arms know it.

Thank you.
An update on the re-building. After some arm aching work today - and knees and legs  I finally got everything finished. The original main and loop are back in and a new siding laid for the goods depot. New ballast obtained from builders supplies and laid replacing the poor looking stuff that had been down for about four years. All that remain is to paint the structures, put them in place and runs trains again.
I do not run many passenger trains (J&S cars with ten wheeler) but the passengers and railroad engineers and conductors will appreciate the newly repainted diner which is adjacent to the flag stop.

Thank you so much Larry.
Yesterday was rainy so it was a shopping day. Today turned out great, warm, sunny with a gentle breeze; ideal for painting. The fist job was to repaint part of a fence, now exposed after removal of plants. This was followed by the structures; way station, elevator office and engine room, elevator walkway, freight depot, watchmans tower and some work on a pump house. This was interspersed with honey do's! :o
Anyway it is all coming together nicely.
I still have the elevator and barn to do but they will be done later on. Trains need to be run. :D

Happy VERY belated birthday, Alan. Since I just saw this, you can tell how long it has been since I visited my favorite model train forum. Sounds like you have been very busy too on your railroad upgrades. Glad you survived and it is about done. Your post shamed me, as I should do something similar. Irma kind of did a number on my railroad. I finally got the mainline operating, but there is still a lot of grading, cleanup, and reinstallation of buildings to do.

Anyway, I hope you and Janet had a great day on your birthday, and that she is treating you well!!

Ed

Thank you Ed for your good wishes.
Everything is ready to go, track re-laid but not yet had chance to actually run a train as rain and honey do's have taken place. Today is lovely so there is every chance if trains. :D
I hope you do manage to get the back yard and the railroad sorted out; at least you and Kathy are OK. It isn't easy to imagine how folks have fared after Irma as tv pics only show the more severe destruction and overlook the fact that many, many more folk have had issues to varying degrees.
